Museum Day Live Saturday, September 23

Museum Day Live Dallas Fort Worth TexasDid you know that Museum Day Live is coming up? Mark your calendars now to gain free entry into 16 museums in the DFW area alone! To get a ticket, visit the mapped list link at the bottom of this post. Then, visit the museum you want to go to. There will be a link to get a free ticket there.

You MUST have a ticket for your free entry. The ticket is good for one free entry, plus one free guest pass! It is not good on special exhibits, IMAX, parking or any other special event). You can only download one ticket per email address and you cannot change museums once you’ve secured your ticket.

State Fair Ticket Request Due in ONE Week

State Fair of Texas Homeschool TicketsHeads up! You have one more week to turn in State Fair of Texas requests!! Each student K-12 is eligible for one ticket a piece. The family will also receive 1 free teacher ticket. Pretty good deal if you get off having to possibly pay for just one parent!

The designated homeschool day is on Thursday. That also happens to be Senior Discount Day. We always enjoy bringing the grandparents with us so that adults out number the children.

Make sure you follow the instructions in the link below precisely. The fair is very picky on how to request tickets. Make sure it is also post marked by May 15 or you will not get tickets.

Friday Night Lights – Lunar Experience

Make sure night moonto head outside on Friday night. Outside observers can witness a lunar eclipse, a full moon, and a comet light up the sky. February’s full moon is also known as the Snow Moon, will be shadowed when the earth, moon, and sun all align. A lunar eclipse happens when the earth blocks the sun’s light from reflecting off of the moon. The eclipse will being at 4:45pm Eastern time and end at 9:45pm Eastern time. The best view of the eclipse will be from the east in DFW.

On early Saturday morning, a comet named  Comet 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdušáková will pass within about 8 million miles from the earth. The last time it passed the earth 2011. You will probably need to break out a telescope or some good binoculars to see this one. If you miss it, don’t worry, it’ll be back in 5-6 more years!

Scarborough Fair Homeschool Day

Hear ye, hear ye! It’s time once again to buy tickets for the Scarborough Fair Student Day in Waxahachie on May 16!

Admission is only $8 and for every 7 student ticket bought, you receive one chaperone ticket free.  Otherwise adult tickets are $10 each when purchased before April 28. Adult tickets purchased after this date or at the gate will be $15. There is also a lunch option for $10/person.

Student Day has many opportunities for competitions in heraldry, art, drama, choir, improvisation, photography, essay, poetry, and prose and poetry interpretation competitions. Some of these contests will  be judged using UIL rules. For more details on these competitions and how to enter, please see their website.

What’s Happening Around DFW? January 16 – 20

Once the rain clears up, it should be a rather nice week to get outside and enjoy everything going on in DFW. Check out the calendar here for a complete list! Here’s a few highlights from the week ahead:

What is Happening This Weekend? Jan 13-15, 2017

It’s Friday!!!! Although sometimes for home school parents, that doesn’t really mean a whole lot. Maybe it means sports and birthday parties, or maybe it just means a few days to do nothing, or maybe it’s your time to go out and explore as a family.

Here’s a few things going on in DFW this weekend that you may want to check out. Know if anything else? Comment here so I can add it to the calendar!!

 

  1. The Heard Wildlife Sanctuary second Saturday bird walk is on Saturday morning.
  2. Head out to the Bob Jones Nature Preserve in Keller to volunteer with their Nature Guard
  3. The DMA has a few workshops going on.
  4. Head over to North Park if it rains for a marionette play.
